Yet another low for rupee, now hits 72.18 against US dollar

The currency on Monday tracked other Asian currencies on global dollar strength, slipping 45 paise from its previous close when the RBI intervened heavily to prevent it from slipping below 72 to the dollar. Forex dealers said buying by importers, mainly oil refiners in view of surging crude oil prices, and capital outflows, weighed on the rupee.
