Shaktikanta Das, economic secretary during demonetisation, is RBI governor

The appointment of Shaktikanta Das, as the new RBI governor came within 24 hours of Urjit Patel’s sudden resignation, and signals the government’s resolve not to allow uncertainty to linger. Das, who was a Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, resigned as member of the 15th Finance Commission on Tuesday, and is expected to take charge in a day or two.
